Eye Surgery Update
I sat down tonight to make an indepth list of all the appointments, therapies, surgeries Dmitriy is in need of. There are a few things I want to take care of here in SD before we leave since the list is so long. He has been home with us for 5 months now, he has settled very well and it is now time to hit hard with these things.
I had started to give up hope on Dmitriy having the eye surgery. The Dr. in New York who is the only Dr. willing and the only Dr. who has given us a light of hope is not a provider with our insurance. We were told they might would cover something but the "chances" would be slim. This is a cornea implant (not cheap)! Then when we were told we were going to to CA my hopes grew even slimmer that we would make it to the other side of the country for this eye surgery.
Last week I e mailed Dr. A in New York to tell him about our move and to see if there was a Dr. in California that might be willing to take Dmitiry and who he would also highly recommend. He is so kind and emailed me right back giving me a number of a Dr. in Los Angeles who just might see Dmitiry who he would highly recommened.
I just found out tonight that this Dr. IS a provider with our insurance! I am gaining some hope back.
He is in Los Angeles so that will be a 6 hour drive from us but VERY much worth it!
We are thinking this will be the first thing we tackle in CA, even before the cleft palate surgery. They say the longer you wait the smaller the "chances" of success. I keep hearing age 8 as the magic cut off number...Dmitriy will be 7 in Dec.
Dmitriy only has the one eye and it is so bad that even the Dr.s at the University of Medicine in Colorado at the Children's Hosp. refused to touch him. They said it would be pointless. Dr. A in New York was a pioneer for this cornea implant so he has much more experience with children. He said we have to be prepared that D may gain nothing from the surgery, but what do we have to loose? He sees nothing now, not even light from dark.
If we do this surgery and it is unsuccessful, we are very much content with that. We know the Lord can give him sight through this surgery if He chooses to do so and we will praise Him for that. If He chooses not to, then we praise Him and we can rest knowing as his parents we tried to give this to him.
We have to report to CA by Nov. 15. We plan to leave here the first week of Nov. We would love to have Dmitiry an appt. with this Dr. in Los Angeles in Jan....that will give us time to get unpacked and through the holidays. We do covet your prayers concerning this.

wow Misty! How exciting, so there is just one example of why you are being led to CA! How awesome is that. I pray the surgery comes soon and goes well!
Perhaps this is part of the reason for your transfer to CA? :) We will certainly pray that this doctor will do the surgery and that if God wills, restore sight!
So good to hear of him giving you kisses now :) so sweet. I think its so cute when Sean comes over to show me a boo boo and waits for a kiss...when he first came home, he wouldn't cry at all when he got hurt...until he saw the others cry and get their boo boos kissed :)
praying for you!
