This morning I have been working on updating and adding to our homeschool recitation folder. Recitation has been a tremendous blessing to our homeschool journey and I do want to blog about it in the near future.
I was reading the opening prayer that I had put in our folder (not a prayer I wrote, but one I found). I am really trying to soak in its powerful words. This is not only what I want for my children's lives, but what I so desire for my own.
Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward
Save that of knowing I am doing your will.
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for reward
Save that of knowing I am doing your will.
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
This reminded me of a book I am reading on the topic of finding God's will. The Lord has used it to be a tremendous help to me. We should prayerfully consider important decisions in life such as new jobs and possible relocations, those are important decisions to seek the Lord over. However, ultimately, the Lord's will for our life is plainly laid out in scripture... to seek first the kingdom of God, to love our neighbor as ourself, to love the Lord our God with our whole heart.... (the list goes on.)
It reminds me of a quote that we have plastered on the world map in our dining room...
"Where you go or what you do is not nearly as important as whom you serve."
